I live in Rome and I think you have received excellent advice. Basically, think wide. Low light lenses are, of course, always useful, but the sun here is still extremely bright; I often have to use an ND filter in order to use wider apertures. But my camera has only a 1/2000 max shutter speed. You might not have this problem.
