Where are you located? I don't know if this is appropriate but I have some extra equipment that I have been thinking about selling as I have a lot of overlap in my lenses. I have a second generation 24-85 may fit your application nicely. I have had it since new and it has always been a very good lens. Believe it or not another that you may want to keep an eye out for would be a original 35-70 that dates back to the 80's. They are very sharp and compact and can be had for fairly cheap if someone isn't paying attention.
