Help choosing a lighting set

Thanks for the advise, I will definitely read through the post.

I know that these aren't the best lights in world but on a limited budget (under $300) I just want to have something that I can use again. The only reason I was leaning towards the strobes is because it is an umbrella/softbox combo. I was thinking of using the umbrella as a fill and the softbox as a key light. Mainly looking for a distinct yet soft shadows with enough contrast to show off the detail of the production material/texture on close ups.

Would it be better to invest in one better quality light and a reflector?
