For tuscany (never spent much time down south) when I was in the hills outside Florence I found I used 24mm (12mm for 4/3) quite a bit as well as 50 range. I mostly walked through small castle like towns and found many interesting things to photograph (cats in the alley; red bikes; people and architecture) and tended towards the wide-normal range. The 14-x zoom is probably useful when just waking around; at least for me I never had much of a need for anything longer than 80mm (40mm 4/3) in the area I explored; though I will admit quite a few of the images benefited with some isolation (fast prime wide open).
