Ainsworth: "Sony worried about Fujifilm's X-Trans Sensor"
Sep 24, 2012

Comments from people make for interesting reading and you can certainly learn a great deal but whether they carry weight to sway a buying decision is another matter. With me it's a no.

Seeing as though others have started threads quoting other people, I thought I'd do the same for balance.

Here is a quote from Alexander Ainsworth ....

"After two weeks with this new X-Trans sensor equipped X-Pro1 from Fujifilm I have come to the conclusion we are seriously close to the 'Holy Grail' of sensor technology. This unique APS-C size sensor is capable of producing stunningly accurate and true to life imagery more so than any other sensor I have been privy to evaluate.

While Fujifilm's peers continue to be locked in to advancing ageing and somewhat limiting technology, Fujifilm's gamble on investing in a slightly different approach has paid off, and paid off big time.

Fujifilm's uncanny knack with skin tone and colour rendering is legendary within the industry (not surprising as Fujifilm has a long and illustrious photographic film heritage) and this new X-Trans technology continues to strengthen this reputation.

My friends at Sony are not allowed to tell me they are worried but off the record the buz within the inner sanctum of Sony is one of concern about the X-Trans and how it will continue to evolve. They have nothing to counter it at the moment and this may remain the case for quite some time.

I am tempted to say that only the most fastidious professional or very serious enthusiast who obsesses over image quality above all else would appreciate what Fujifilm has done here, but in some instances so obvious to the human eye is the advantage I'm inclined to suggest those thankful may belong to a much wider and not so specialist audience."

Interesting comments to say the least.

Cheers
