Nice image and I did my work in PSPX5. I created a new layer above the background layer and assigned it a blend mode of darken. Then, I selected one of the darker blues of the upper-center of the sky and using a very large and quite soft brush, brushed in the blue at 100% opacity, in such a manner that the center of the brush stroke was just below the top of the picture and the bottom was slightly above the lighter area above the horizon. This allowed for a blend with the original sky. Then, I merged the layers and ran Topaz Adjust to get a little more color and detail. Here is my result:
