Most people struggle to get ENOUGH dof, not less. This whole ultra shallow DOF business is pretty cliche, kinda like the fisheye lens was for a long time. m43 with fast glass can blur the background more than enough. A lot of editors chew their photogs out for not stopping down enough. With a smaller sensor, yuo can shoot a wider aperture for a faster shutter speed and not have to worry as much about getting enough DOF.

Still...a lot of people wants shallower DOF, this is part of photography. It's much more easy to get a lot of DOF and much less expensive that the other way around...you may be fine with an xz1 for this.

with my PL 25/1.4 pm m4/3 I need to get much closer to the subject to get the same DOF as with my Nikkor 1.4 on film camera...this is not always possible in practice.
