Have you calibrated your monitor?

I've had this happen a few times on my windows 7 pc. The cure, for me, is to check the colour management setting in DPP (Tools> Preferences: Colour Management tab) then check the Monitor Profile under Color matching settings.

Photoshop automatically uses the correct monitor profile but sometimes - and I've no idea why - DPP forgets to use the correct profile and reverts to using the sRGB profile which gives the sort of brighter image you describe.

Thank you Paul. I am also running windows 7, set the color management on the computer and DPP to match. Now the images look identical when viewed in DPP or Windows viewer. This may explain why previous poster said they look the same. Thanks again.
