Video with a Sigma 18-250mm,...a word of caution
Sep 22, 2012

I recently toured Teton National Park and got many great pictures with my 18-250mm Sigma lens. I prefer the lens IS so had turned off the Sony Steady Shot in my a57.

After the first day, I was very happy with my stills but the few video clips I took were simply TERRIBLE. Color and sharpness were good but there was apparently no stabilization of the video. I did some tests and found my problem. Although I thought I had turned Steady Shot off, I had forgotten that there is a separated Steady Shot for video. This must ALSO be turned off in the menu. Believe me, if you use the Sigma stabilized lenses and the lens IS, you will be very unhappy with your videos unless you remember to turn the camera Video Steady Shot off.
