I think you dont get it because you forget the issue of "flexibility"; if you want to go compact(so you can take it easily with you every day) dont use the grip & put a pancake on the body. If you want to do serious, lenghty photo sessions, add the grip for less stress on your hand. A dslr will stay big, even with a pancake, but with m43 you have the choice, thats one of the key strenghts.
