Since I'm a career editorial photographer, I have a huge variety of images. I use a single portfolio with discreet sub-headings: "Illustration and architecture," "News & Events," "Biz and Tech Portraits," "Fine Art" and so forth.
If I was a wedding or portrait photographer, I would be far more selective. Still, I've noticed that clients who need a shot of some ribbon cutting or grip and grin get all excited by seeing a picture of the Pope or President or Space Shuttle launch or emergency rescue. People aren't very rational.
