any oppinion on 40mm f2.8 G macro lens on D5100 body? Is the quality of taking portrait / butterfly good compare to 50mm lens?

Probably a bit too short, to be honest - I have the 60mm Micro, and you end up getting very close to your subject! It does appear to be an excellent lens, optically, though.

What exactly do you want to do? If you want the equivalent of 50mm on film, have a look at the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G. If you want an actual 50mm lens, the 50mm f/1.8G is very good (I think the Sigma 50mm f/2.8 macro is not an AF-S lens, and is no cheaper) - both are around the $ £200 mark, and are AF-S type lenses, so will autofocus fine.
