D600 Lens Dilemma
Sep 20, 2012

Moving from D50 (DX) to D600 (FX). About time. Ya, I know.
Here is what I have -
1) Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 (old one) - Portraits.
2) Nikkor 17-55 f/2.8 - Travel, and everything in between
3) Nikkor 85 f/1.8G - Portraits. Just ordered.

I am a hobbyist. I just shoot family - portraits, vacations, kids sports, etc. I am keeping D50 as it does not have much value on eBay and my kids can learn DSLR on it. the 50mm will probably stay on it.

1) I would like a lightweight travel lens. I can live with 17-55, but am considering either 18-200 or 18-300. None of them are DX, I understand. There is no right answer, but would like an opinion from those who have experience with either.

2) If money were not an issue, I would have sold 17-55 and got 24-70 f/2.8. Alas, money is everything. What am I losing with DX lens on an FX body, quality wise (not crop wise)? 17-55 goes for 800-1000 on eBay, whereas new 24-70 is about 1800. Huge difference.

Thank you.
