Sony as all other makers allows licensing their mount specifications and protocol (which includes definition of current and future lens ID's range). Sigma chooses not to pay licening fees, and rather do reverse engineering of the A mount. The result is compatibility issues for which Sigma lenses are famous for all brands.

It is a 100% Sigma fault and Sigma shall deal with it. Sigma shall worn their customers that compatibility issue exist and may arrous on newer camera models, as indeed ocured with introduction of Sony DSLT.

BTW, AFAIK Tamron and Tokina do license SOng's mount protocol and to best of my knowledge do not have any identification and / or compatibility problems neither with Sony nor with any other brand
