I don't think Google has been particularly egregious with this behavior, but that IS the deal they want to make with you. You get to use some pretty good software for free in exchange for basic demographic and internet use data from you.

I believe some sort of 'serious' online editor using NIK technology to complete with Adobe's online efforts perhaps tied in to Google Drive and display options tied to the Android OS would not be out of the question. It seems a logical progression to me.
