These are my $5,000 reasons to not use a quick draw strap again

If you are in the US and have homeowner's insurance, it may pay for the damages. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I once wrecked a motorcycle, and homeowner's insurance paid to replace the camera that my wife was wearing around her neck, and other bits that weren't permanently attached to the bike. (Between the bike insurance and homeowner's, everything was covered with the single exception of the cord running from the bike to a radar detector. Insurance coverage can be odd.)
