The VR 1 is fantastic on my D800. The vignetting isnt that noticable and is easily correctable in NX2 if it is a problem.

Sharpness is spectacular. Its probably the best lens I own. When I bought Nikon after I sold my Minolta gear I swore I would never buy another third party lens. The TAMRON experience cured me of that.

( I did however break down and get a SAMYANG 14mm and it is GREAT )

Find a used 70-200VR1, forget the Sigma

Also the VR1 takes the 1.4 and 1.7 teleconverter really well. I can hardly see a difference with the 1.7 on mine.
