There probably won't be another multi-aspect sensored GH camera (assuming they are indeed moving away). So skipping the GH3 is...well, pointless. You'll just end up skipping the GH5,6,7 etc etc...and hence, giving up on any future m43. Unless you are instead okay with Oly even though they aren't multi-aspected.

Giving up mu4/3 isn't the only option: just skip this round of upgrades and stick with a GH2, which is what I'll probably do, given the lack of a multiformat option.

Can't understand "The lack of Multi-Aspect" and "Crop Factor" most of you are complaining - and so worried - about...

I gathered sensel data about the GH3 and GH2 (differences in bold):

DMC-GH3 --------------------------------- DMC-GH2 --------

• 4608 x 3456 (4:3) --------------------- • 4608 x 3456 (4:3)
------- 3264 x 2448 (4:3) ----------------------- 3264 x 2448 (4:3)
------- 2336 x 1752 (4:3) ----------------------- 2336 x 1752 (4:3)

• 4608 x 3072 (3:2) --------- --------- • 4752 x 3168 (3:2)
------- 3264 x 2176 (3:2) ---------- ---------- 3360 x 2240 (3:2)
------- 2336 x 1560 (3:2) ---------- ---------- 2400 x 1600 (3:2)

• 4608 x 2592 (16:9) -------- -------- • 4976 x 2800 (16:9)
------- 3264 x 1840 (16:9) --------- --------- 3520 x 1984 (16:9)
------- 1920 x 1080 (16:9) --------------------- 1920 x 1080 (16:9)

• 3456 x 3456 (1:1) --------------------- • 3456 x 3456 (1:1)
------- • 2448 x 2448 (1:1) ----------------------- 2448 x 2448 (1:1)
------- • 1744 x 1744 (1:1) ----------------------- 1744 x 1744 (1:1)

The only differences I see are the number of (usable) sensels on the 3:2 and 16:9 "aspect ratios formats" and respective (smallish) crop factor by the GH2...

One should not be surprised to find Pany dropping the larger aspect sensor as they have mentioned several times it is cost a lot more to manufacture than say the sensor for the GX1. With Oly now changing over to reportedly Sony sensor all the more reason for manufacturing and cost efficiency for Pany to concentrate on only one sensor size also.

One should note that Pany is placing emphasis on improving the IQ primarily less noise in the new sensor and lighter low pass filter for higher resolution so that may well offset the slight loss in resolution. Yes there is a greater loss in resolution when using 16:9 aspect ratio with the new sensor but how often is this used other than for wide landscapes? The most commonly printed size used outside of prints where higher resolution is irrelevant is 10x8" and for that the 4/3 format fits best and where APSC sensor must crop some pixels.

Another factor for all we know from the sensor size this may be the same as that used for the new PENs or similar to that in the EM5?

A question is why then does the G5 use a GH2 sensor w/o multi aspect? Maybe because the sensor for the GH3 was not ready in time and the next time around the G6 and GX2 will have the same sensor as the GH3?
