A Canon 300mm f/2.8 with a 2x teleconverter is equivalent to a 600mm f/5.6.

This combination costs $7700 (7250+459) and weighs 2675 g (2350 g + 325 g). Its a flexible setup that can use lighter weight tripods or drop the 2x TC for closer in shots.

The 600mm f/4 gains one stop of light, but costs $13,000 and weighs 3920 g. Canon doesn't offer a 600 f/5.6.

For bright sunlight (as in the case of the princess au natural shots), the dream setup might be the 800mm f/5.6 + 2x teleconverter. Effectively a 1600mm f/11, but $14,500 and 4815 g. However, the added weight and problems with vibration at that focal length would also require a heavy tripods, gimbal mount etc.
