G1X advice needed - fast!

• So what would be a circular polarizer that you recommend?

• "Buy a bunch of cheaper UV filters to protect your lens with if you shoot near the beach."

I did order one, as you saw, but it wasn't that cheap and more importantly, I thought the point of the filter is mainly to protect the lens glass. And if it's on, doesn't it need to be as clear and "good quality" as possible?
