One reason for the higher price is the increased popularity of m4/3. The demand for each new camera and lens has pushed prices up. Panasonic and Olympus know this and price new releases high, knowing that people will line up to preorder. I'm hoping there will be some drop in the GH3 price by the December holidays, but if it's not available until November, I don't know. I paid $1000 for the GH2 with 14-140 lens last December with a holiday sale. Just sold it for $995 to get the GH3, but looks like that won't even cover just the body now! with the 12-35 f/2.8, probably in the $2k neighborhood.
