GH3 spec: Light Speed AF 240fps
Sep 18, 2012

I was looking on the Pany site for the GH3 under the high speed response section:

http://panasonic.net/avc/lumix/systemcamera/gms/gh3/still_response.html

"The DMC-GH3 features ultra-high-speed Light Speed AF makes it possible to capture even the fast-moving subject clearly. Not only the accuracy but also the speed excels by far than the high-end DSLRs with phase-difference AF with the advanced contrast AF system of the DMC-GH3. The camera and the lens exchange the digital signal at max. 240 fps to minimize the time to focus."

I then compared this to what they note for the G5:

http://panasonic.net/avc/lumix/systemcamera/gms/g5/response.html

"The DMC-G5 features high speed AF system “Light Speed AF” which is achieved by reducing the detection time for focusing by doubling the drive speed of the sensor and the lens from 60 fps to 120 fps*. Not only the accuracy but also the speed excels by far than the high-end DSLRs with phase-difference AF with the advanced contrast AF system in DMC-G5."

I don't have the G5 so I cannot comment on its focus speed, but was wondering if the 240 fps spec. on the GH3 will put this camera in phase-detect focus speed territory of some DSLRs? Trying to look at all this with my "marketing goggles" on, but can't help but wonder is this a breakthrough for the system in terms of focusing speed...
