But then the successor of the 300D was even smaller and lighter than either of theese, EOS 350D:

So if anything they have tried to stay at the same size and weight.

Some may think that this is big and heavy, not me though, I usually run around with a battery grip attached to my 40D... Even when hiking! Occasionally I do take it off though, when I need to pack light or do really straineous hikes!
