24-120 to replace a 24-70 ?
Sep 16, 2012

Hi !

Last week, my 24-70 AFS f/2.8 fell off a table and, although there was nothing visible, the zoom ring wouldn't rotate anymore ! I sent it to Nikon, but I've been told that the cost of the repair could be quite high...

The guy at Nikon told me that they could be a possibility to leave the lens to Nikon for the parts, and that they could make me a good offer to buy another (new) lens.....

What do you think of that ? Did someone have the same problem and how much did the repair cost ?

...and, if I chose to get another lens with a good rebate from Nikon, would the 24-120 VR be a good choice ? Since I bought it, 3 years ago, I LOVED my 24-70, as it was the sharpest lens I ever had... Would I be desapointed by the 24-120 in comparaison ?

I'm not taking into acount the f/4 versus the f/2.8 apertures... I reckon the VR can easely compensate for the 1 stop difference !

TIA for your opinions...
