Please advise - Is the Nikon 85mm G f1.8 lens supposed to be sharper than this?

I think that I may have a bad copy..Trying to find out if this lens should be exchanged.........

These are nominal 300 by 300 images taken with the above lens on a D800.

I thought that at f1.8 the image would be sharper.

Am I expecting too much?

Does anyone have hands on experience with this lens on a D800?

The size of the subsamples is a nominal 300 by 300 from a full resolutio image of a D800.
