Canon Marketing Advisory # 1657187 January 1, 2011

In order to protect the coveted Canon Pro "L" lens brand as an exclusive pro segment at a time were increasing numbers of amateur consumers are buying "L" designated lenses, we strongly suggest that all sales people use the following nomenclature in their sales promotion:

"Standard "L" = Any "L" lens the customers already owns
"Premium L" = Any "L" lens the customer is currently saving to get
"Super-Premium L" = Any "L" lens the customer would like, but cannot afford

Please note that we have also decided to conduct an on-line marketing push on selected photographic enthusiast internet forums were Canon "L"-lens owners distance themselves by reference to their photographic skills and results from owners of any other brand camera or lens.

UPDATE for Canon Marketing Advisory # 1657187 March 15, 2011

Following our marketing advisory on Canon "L"-lenses we have been asked about the recommended designation for non-"L" Canon lenses. As all Canon lenses are per definition are high quality optical devices, we suggest that sales people use the following nomenclature for non-"L" lenses in their sales promotion.

When selling or promoting non-"L"-lenses:
"High Quality Canon lens"

When selling or promoting "L"-lenses:
"Canon consumer lens"

Please note that the on-line marketing push on selected photographic enthusiast internet forums ended January 15, 2011 after the marketing strategy went viral.
