S602 + "Set Adapter Ring" Setting

I just purchased the S602 Zoom based on numerous reviews and more importantly, this forum. Love the camera
I have a kenko 55-55mm adapter with a UV filter. According to the instruction manual, the "Set Adapter Ring" setting should be set to "on" when using the 55mm lens adapter. Would leaving the "Set Adapter Ring" setting in the "off" position affect the output of my photos? The manual says the external AF sensor (which seems to cut AF time in 1/2) is disabled when the "Set Adapter Ring" setting is in the "on" position. I have taken photos with the adapter in place with each "set adapter ring" setting and haven't noticed any difference in picture quality, only AF speed. I thought I'd ask here to see what you all thought before I use the camera to take shots where I won't have time to experiment.
Thanks in advance.
