D600 is Nikon fixing its product strategy - not a D700 replacement

There could two possibilities

A- There will be a D400 at $1500. That would fill the gap between D7000 and D600. 8fps, 24mp, 51 point AF, same video as D600. Many would pay $1500 despite being DX. OTOH, many would prefer paying $500 more to have FX sensor.

B- Nikon thinks high-fps (8-9) DX is a thing of past. They want users to move to D4 if they want high FPS. They think that about 6fps (5,5fps in D600) is the new standard for enthusiast-semipro cameras. Want high fps? Go $$$D4$$$... or buy a used D700/d3/d3s.
