Reality check
Sep 13, 2012

OK, the hysteria is at an all time high over the Nikon D600, and while it's a very nice looking cam, Let's think about a few things:

I have a 5D II. Has the camera ever prevented me from getting a shot? Well, aside from action sports, no. Have I ever been disatisfied with the image quality? No. I've got three or four 60" wide prints hanging in the house, and they look great. One of them was shot at ISO 3200. Are the any Nikon lenses I MUST have accss to? No. If anything, moving to Nikon would deprive me of two of my favorite lenses, the 24-105 and 70-200 f4 IS. I had thought about getting a D800, but after my query in the Nikon forum about the AF issues, I'll pass. Yes, the Nikons have better sensors, but as I said, I haven't hit the limits of my current gear. I suspect there are a lot more like me who will evaluate their situation and stay put.

In the meantime, the GX1 and 5D II will continue to serve my needs very well. And someday the hysteria will die down and we'll all just pressing the damned shutter button again.

Onward and upward...
No Signature.
