Just to clarify what I'm thinking..

There should be no reason why RCS cannot be used in the same way that FP mode sync can be used beyond normal x-sync. The advantage would be that RCS would have a shorter and more consistent duration making it more suitable for accessing the peak output of the flash and with less % flash deterioration across the flash exposure time. Where FP mode flash will need a flash duration of between 4.25 - 8 ms for an exposure cycle of 1/8000s - 1/500s, RCS will take consistently 4ms, every time (as all that is happening is the flash is firing prior to the shutter closing and this will always be the same duration). The point at which the flash fires and the width of the shutter opening might have an impact, but it would be interesting to try.

Anybody have a mechanical rear curtain sync camera?

Theres only one sun. Why do I need more than one light to get a natural result?
