Did you not say to assign the AE/L to focus only ( this is my set up as well ), but then to hold the shutter button for focus ?

Hi Peyton,
With the AF-L option set, once you achieve focus and press the AF-L button. it will hold that focus until you finish pressing the shutter button. It works great once you get used to it.
