Tribute in Light (WTC) and some help?
Sep 12, 2012

Hey Guys,

We went down to Brooklyn last night to see the Tribute in Light for Patriot Day (911)... it was a gorgeous night, and I was glad to be able to go with my daughter and husband to see it again. Of course, I also took the opportunity to take some photos.

There were LOTS of other photographers there set up with their tripods trying to get "the shot" too. Getting something even the slightest bit unique when it comes to shooting such a popular site is quite the challenge

Use the Pentax K-5 and DA 21mm Limited mostly...

Now here's where I need some help...

I took quite a few shots of the Brooklyn Bridge too. I've shot it in the past and never run into this issue....

I was getting this very strange flare. It happened with both the 21mm and the 35mm Macro Limited, so I don't think it was specific to the lens. I've also never seen this show up in other night shots I've done, so I think it has to do with the tribute lights themselves causing it. I shot with a small aperture and mostly did long exposures, 20-30 seconds. Almost all my shots of the bridge show individual blue "flare" spots... and the further away from the tribute lights, the more noticeable.

So tell me...

My K-5 needs servicing for other issues (dust, focusing issues) - should I mention this too or this an expected results?

Could anyone give me some tips to get rid of these in photoshop... I've tried various things myself and nothing seems to work... Any ideas would be helpful...

Thanks for looking!

Amy
