New monitor for ageing eyes
Sep 12, 2012

I just turned 60 and have lived quite happily with 19" crt's for the last dozen years or so. Being able to spread 1024x768 across a 19" screen has proven to be invaluable as my near vision has weakened. But now my Sony's horizontal scan just died, so I must replace it. Crt's are nowhere to be found, forcing me to move on to an LED.

As I've looked into the move to LEDs, I see the rules have changed, i.e. they're not as flexible. Using LEDs at native resolution appears to be a must. With ppi's hovering near 100, I'm bracing myself for more eye strain or less sharp images or both.

I'm sure many have already faced this dilemna... how did you deal with it, and what monitor did you end up with?

Using site search, I've gleaned that I want something in the 19-22 inch range with IPS. Photo editing is the most demanding thing I do. My video card is a Radeon 7000 AGP 64MB. Any input would be appreciated.
