Say what? I was expecting between $5000 and $7000. I have no interest in such lenses though. Canon has a 400 mm f/4 which is fairly equivalent in terms of cost, and it is $6500. Nikon has a 200-400 mm f/4 which is $7000.

Which Canon or Nikon f5.6 primes are priced at $7K ?

Yes if this was an f4 then I'd expect it to be around this price mark but slower lenses, (and f5.6 is slow for a prime), are designed to be more affordable.
