Canon/Nikon cannot fail?????

Don you seem to underestimate the ability managers of big companies to make extremely stupid decisions. Perhaps you have heard of Kodak or perhaps Minolta. Before they augered in no one would believe they could possibly fail.

I am convinced that within 10-15 years the mirrorless camera concept will push the dSLR into a niche position — just as the SLR pushed the rangefinder out of the way and 35mm took over from Medium Format (all in my lifetime).

Nixon and Canon have a tremendous investment in the status quo. If they wait too long Sony and Panasonic will leave them in the dust. Ask the managers of Leica what happens when you refuse to adapt to new ideas. The C/N mirrorless cameras are best described as "pathetic". Unless they respond to a very real threat by producing the kind of mirrorless cameras that they are capable of doing, they may find that it is too late to play catch up.

Photography has a lot in common with pipe smoking.

There is far more fiddling around with the equipment than there ever is in using it!
