xp1 does 'les belles étoiles'
Sep 10, 2012

... or, the starry, moonless night sky in france (limousin) on the third of august this year, just before midnight.

with thanks to arrakis99 and his (her?) peaceful and spacey milky way picture this morning, which reminded me of my endeavours in the same vein, now with the xp1.

the first photograph looks due south, with a very prominent milky way. the second looks north east. just a little below the centre of the second photo (and a little to the right as well), our close-by neighbouring galaxy andromeda (nebula) can be seen as a tiny 'cloud'. only two billion light years away - and that's as close as it gets in our universe. up to the left is casseiopeia.

technically:

manual focus, pre tested in daytime for true infinity, as the infinity mark in the distance indicator puts the lens a little beyond infinity;

18mm, f4, 30 sec., camera lying on its back on a buckwheat chaff cushion, self-timer set at 2 seconds (no need for a cable release that way), 3200 iso, raw.
