I know this has been discussed before but iThe old minolta iISO shoe never bothered me, in fact I find it very satisfactory and well designed, and it was certainly ahead of its time.
1) my minolta flashes worked perfectly.
2) if i needed to use studio lights I would use the PC socket on the camera
3) If I wanted radio triggers with a normal ISO hotshoe I'd use the FS1200 hot shoe convertor or similar which is available for a few dollars/pounds/yen on ebay.
4) Sigma & Metz mad reliable 3rd party flashes that fitted the iISO hot shoe. In fact I would say the Metz flashes was better than the Minolta Sony ones!!!
5) Recently a whole slew of radio triggers (TTL and non TTL) have appeared with the iISO hot shoe from manufacturers such as Pixel and Aokatec

And now sony has changed the hotshoe back to what looks like a single pin dumb iso shoe???????
How's that gonna work???
All they needed to do was put a 3 dollar hot shoe convertor accessory in with the camera!
