Thankyou for the replies, the S-canon cameras were a choice but they did seem a little small, I don't need them to be pocketable! Not to mention the tiny compact sensor and no manual controls other than the dial at the front.
The GX1 however I can get for £350 used with kit lens which is an alright price, about what I paid for the 40D body which isn't too bad, I've also held the GX1 in store and it was upto 40D standards too!
I have owned a m4/3 before, the OM-D for a month or so, then sold it as I did not need a compact system nor the jello-like IS, the camera was a treat to use however m4/3 lenses were just too pricey for me and the 12-50mm kit wasn't giving me the pictures I wanted, the GX1 with kit might not be much different in terms of stillls but it should do some great video and, if I decide that I love the damn thing (you know know!) I can sell my DSLR kit, buy a viewfinder for the GX1 and a lens or two, however I don't think that will happen, but it does give me more options than if I was to go with a compact. If the GX1 does happen to be out of price range the GF2 also sits just below it and does 1080p video and looks to be a chunky bugger too, GF2/GX1 it is!
Thankyou for the suggestions, all the best.
