Maqybe the idea does need a few words, like 'total disaster'.

If Sony had the rights to the Foveon sensor, they'd produce a line of Foveon cameras that would spark the hopes and interest of camera buyers everywhere. And then, just as the idea was taking hold, ... Sony management would trash the entire plan and go in an entirely different direction, leaving hundreds of thousands of customers in the lurch.

Why?

... Because that's what Sony does.
