Black & White printer recommendation

I am searching for a large format printer mostly for B&W photos. I have been looking at the Epson 3880, Epson 3000, Canon Pro 1, Canon Pro 9500 Mark II.
Any other suggestions?
I have been told by my local photo store that the 3880 would be my best bet for B&W print quality, durability and ink consumption.
Does the higher price of the 3880 really make up for the life expectancy of the printer and ink usage efficiency?
Any advice / experience would be greatly appreciated!
