Upgrade 50D to 7d, or new lens? Help

I obviously can't answer for GeraldW (btw, completely agreee with his first post), but the 50D is IMO a really good camera. However, it's not the camera Canon could have made at the time and it was a small upgrade from the 40D which caused it to get somewhat mixed reviews.
