Battery care for D7K (original battery)

I have just finish reading the user's manual where it says that you should "remove the battery from the camera when not in use". Further on it says "If the battery will not be used in some time, insert it in the camera and run it flat before removing it and storing it in a location with ambient... Repeat this process at least every six months".

Is this what you guys out there suggest? I had read from Darrell Young, in "Mastering the Nikon D7000" that one should never let it drain fully, but one can recharge when it is at the half way mark? Experiences, anyone!
