The 85mm AF-S F1.8 shines on D800(E)...

I own the 1.4G and used the 1.8G from a friend. The main difference, from what I've seen, is that the 1.4G deals with cluttered backgrounds better than the 1.8G. It's hard to distinguish the difference on a clean background, but once it gets cluttered, the 1.4G can bail you out.

AND there's more to lenses than sharpness.
