CPU temps 85C

A while back I asked about CPU temps and recommended ranges. I have a Dell XPS 435t with Core i7 920 processor, not overclocked. The refurbished computer came with an aftermarket fan based cooler, but I never was happy with the temps.
CPU temps were 45-50C idle, and easily hit 85C at 152w (100% usage on all cores), for example when stitching a very large pano. For extended usage at these power levels (5 min) the temps commonly peaked at 95C. Not good.
I finally got around to cleaning the heat sync and fan (not that dirty), cleaned off the old thermal paste, and put on new Arctic silver paste and reseated the heat sync. Idle temps did not change, but maximum temps were reduced to 85C at full load under same conditions as above.
Any other ideas? CPU fan speed is ~850rpm at idle. The Dell bios doesn't give me many options... All temps were pulled using CPU-Z's hardware monitor.
Cheers,
