Photo archive failure, using hard drive
|
Recently I was asked for copies of photos I took a few months ago. No problem I though as I had them saved on an external usb hard drive stored in a closet. When I hooked up the drive it was dead nothing. I took it out of the plastic case and put in my computer as a sata internal drive still dead (even did the freezer trick). Luckily I had another back up on Blu Ray disc. So I found the disc and put it in the Blu Ray drive and no problem, I found what I needed.
I am done with hard drive archiving, now I will just use duplicate Blu Ray discs. Heck if they a good enough for government archival use they are good enough for me.
Hard drive lots of moving parts does not do well if dropped. Blu Ray disc no moving parts withstand being dropped especially in a protective sleeve.
