I definitely like the use of external hard drives for backup. However, I recommend that you buy an external case and two or three hard drives that you can rotate on that case (they may even come in handy if your PC hard drive fails). Always keep one of the hard drives on a separate physical location in case of fire, thieves, or some other unforeseen occurrence. External drives encased in a sealed case (such as WD MyBook) tend to fail early, and you can't reuse the case.
