Mac Book Air Issue ....anyone else experienced this?

Got an e-mail from my wife, below, I am travelling. Wondering if anyone else has heard of this. Is there anything else in a root cause analysis besides a faulty circuit, drive etc. that would cause this. Thanks for reading.

/ Just thought you should know that the new Mac is dead. A few minutes ago I was watching a streaming video and it went off. I thought I just lost the connection. I got up plugged in the power cord and pulled the video back up and it came back immediately. Watched it for about two minutes and then I heard a strange sound like a match being struck against a box, the screen whent black and smoke started coming out of one of the side ports.

/ I would say it is not coming back. Wow...that was short-lived.
