Because it isn't relevant.

I still remember the gas station wars we had when I was a kid; saw gas as low as 1¢/Gal (no joke) back in 1971 (and they even checked your oil and cleaned your windshields back then to boot). I admit that this was a fluke situation, but gas still wasn't more the 25¢/gal for a long time.

I pay about half as much to drive a mile now as I did in 1986.
