Thermo-electronic Cooling?

As a newly fledged photographer, there is sure a heck of a lot I don't know but............

Why haven't we seen TEC devices on our cameras?

Astro-photogs have been using them for as long as there has been digital astro-photography. And yes, I am aware of the diffs between the requirements of both practices but I would think that we would see much better noise to signal ratio with the addition of a TEC.

Much more convenient than a bag of ice!
