Sigma 30mm start-up buzz
Sep 4, 2012

Sometimes when I switch on my NEX-C3 with Sigma 30 EX DN, there is a buzzing noise for a couple of seconds and autofocus is disabled until a switch off and on. I have not found a foolproof way to reproduce but the following sequence leads to the problem after 5 attempts or so:

1. Switch off the camera.
2. Point the lens 45 degrees up.
3. Switch on the camera.

4. If there is no buzzing noise, switch off and try a slightly different angle and repeat from step 3.
5. If there is a buzzing noise, it will stop after a few seconds.
6. The screen is lit up, but the camera won't operate.

7. If you try to change to manual focus, you will get message "Invalid because lens not attached. Attach the lens correctly."
8. Switch off the camera. Point it down. Switch on and it will operate again.

Is this an issue with all Sigma 30, or is it my copy only?
